In September 2011, the European standard for wood pellets, DIN EN 14961-2, was published. DINplus pellets that meet this standard of quality are already widely available as a result of an earlier amendment of the DINplus certification. For the pellets to conform to this quality, they must undergo additional tests, such as measuring the amount of fines emerging during packaging and loading and checking the ash melting temperature. More stringent checks apply to pellet manufacturing in terms of incoming raw materials and quality. The "DIN-Geprüft Qualified Enterprises of Pellet Logistics" certification ensures this wood pellet quality is maintained upon delivery to the end customer.

DINplus for wood briquettes – wood briquettes in accordance with the European DIN EN 14961-3 standard
The DIN-Geprüft certification that has been offered by DIN CERTCO for more than 15 years is being amended following the publication of DIN EN 14961-3. In addition to the already standardized requirements, the "new" certification – so far the only certification for wood briquettes – provides for regular checking of the abrasion characteristics of wood briquettes. This alone justifies issuing these products with the "DINplus" quality certification in the future rather than the DIN-Geprüft.
